The referral tree can become a steady source of Amazon gift cards for those who refer people to us — even months or years after the original referral.
When you refer a friend, family member, client, or colleague to us and their mortgage closes with us, you'll receive a $100 gift card. But it doesn't stop there: you'll also earn $25 for every referral made by the people you refer, and $5 for every referral made by their referrals — as long as each mortgage closes with us. See the illustration above for details.
Why Amazon gift cards?
Gift cards allow the CRA to treat the referral reward as non-taxable income for the recipient. We use Amazon as our default provider because of the wide range of items available, but we're happy to provide gift cards from other retailers upon request.
How can the referral tree become an income stream?
Our business runs almost entirely on referrals. Some of our referral partners are highly active, sending us many referrals a year — and they often use their gift cards to cover the full cost of holiday and birthday gifts, save toward big-ticket items, or simply fund everyday purchases. Even if you don't refer people to us often, if just one of your referrals (or one of theirs) becomes an active referral source, it could add up to a substantial amount of unexpected gift cards.
For example, say you refer 5 people, each of those 5 people refers 5 more, and each of those people refers 5 more:
(5 × $100) + (5 × 5 × $25) + (5 × 5 × 5 × $5) = $1,750
